About Ethiopian Origin ID by Marriage

This service allows foreign nationals who are married to Ethiopian citizens to apply for an Ethiopian Origin ID. The ID offers benefits such as visa-free entry and extended stay privileges in Ethiopia. Applicants must provide proof of a valid marriage to an Ethiopian citizen along with other supporting documents.

Requirements

  • Correctly filled out application form.

  • Passport with more than 6 months’ validity.

  • A copy of the tourist visa (if it is an e-visa, visa print out) and entry date stamp

  • The marriage certificate must be at least 2 years from the date of registration. If the marriage took place abroad, the certificate must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Additionally, marriages conducted according to Sharia law or by elders must be converted into an official vital registration document.

  • If the visa has been extended before, a copy of the last extended visa.

  • The applicant’s signed application letter must be attached.

  • The spouse must be present in person with Ethiopian origin ID or passport.

  • One recent passport-sized photograph.

  • If the name has been changed through marriage, a marriage certificate must be certified.

  • The certificate must be translated by a legal entity if it is not in Amharic or English.

  • If divorced, the Ethiopian origin ID must be returned or cancelled. So the spouses inform this.

  • If the applicant has previously obtained a temporary residence permit, the original must be submitted.

N.B:- A mandatory service fee applies: 300 USD for regular service and 400 USD for urgent service.

A daily penalty applies if you don’t renew your ID on time.
