About Temporary Residence Permit Through Marriage

The Temporary Residence Permit through Marriage allows foreign nationals married to Ethiopian citizens to legally reside in Ethiopia for a specified period. The permit is renewable and subject to conditions set by Ethiopian immigration authorities.

Requirements

  • 6 month valid passport of the applicant.
  • Copy of entry visa (If it’s e-visa, visa print out) and date stamp.
  • If the visa has been extended before, a copy of the last extended visa.
  • Proof of marriage to an Ethiopian citizen (e.g., marriage certificate, if the marriage is from abroad ; it has be authenticated by ministry of foreign affairs; if marriage certificate is other than English and Amharic, it must be translated by a legally recognized body.
  • Ethiopian kebele ID /Ethiopian passport of the spouse.
  • Completed application form.
  • Two recent passport-sized photographs.
  • Bank statement with 500,000 birr or more and letter from banks, or house title certificate, or vehicle license certificate.
  • Proof of financial means to support oneself in Ethiopia.
  • Payment of the application fee.
  • Application letter by Ethiopian Spouse.
  • Additional documents, if requested by immigration authorities.
